Just perform a quick KDE search for released K-Prep released test items and you'll likely come up empty handed. This year KY 10th graders will be assessed using the online K-Prep test over current KCAS and field tested over new Kentucky academic standards for Reading and Mathematics
How do the 2019-2020 changes in school reporting and accountability affect my school?
What can I do to help my teachers prepare students for this state accountability test?
What resources are available for 10th grade K-Prep preparation?
Did you know that KY Academic Standards categories which are tested on the 10th grade K-Prep test and the ACT College & Career Readiness Standards and Reporting Categories are exactly the same? What does this tell us? Though the format of the tests may be different, the content and resources your school has been using to prepare for the ACT are the best resources available for preparing students for 10th grade K-Prep testing.
With the state accountability and testing changing and the adoption of new standards for 2020-2021, many schools are left hoping for the best, but potentially expecting the worst regarding student performance on these tests. As the Proficiency Measures have shifted toward the K-Prep test for 10th graders, which creates minimal motivation for performance unlike the use of college admissions tests like the ACT, schools must find a way to keep students motivated to do well and equip them in the content and skills necessary for proficiency.
Back in the place of being held accountable to a test that doesn't have major impact on a student's future, schools must shift focus from solely skills equipping to motivation and general testing strategies/skills. Students who are motivated on these tests tend to over-react and fall into the trap of test anxiety. These students also need test taking help so they can stay focused and calm as they take state K-Prep tests.
For 10 years, TorchPrep has been focused on helping Kentucky students lower test anxiety, increase test strategies, and increase ACT scores. The format of the 10th grade K-Prep test may be different from the ACT, but each of the KY Academic Standards Categories for Math and Reading line up perfectly with the ACT College & Career Readiness Standards and Reporting Categories. At the highest level, the 10th grade K-Prep tests and the ACT are covering the same content, so practicing and remediating using ACT resources will prove to be the best approach to maximizing K-Prep scores until KDE releases more materials for K-Prep preparation.
